The most expensive Indian painting sold till date was an untitled work by V.S. Gaitonde in 2015 at Christie’s auction in Mumbai.
It was sold for an astounding Rs. 29.3 crores breaking the world record that had been set earlier by Francis Newton Souza for his painting titled ‘Birth’ which sold for Rs. 26.9 crore.
