In Pics: AIIMS Report – More Than One-Third Of 16 Cr Indians Consuming Alcohol Are Addicts

All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) conducted a survey that covered all states and Union Territories which has shed light on the serious drug and alcohol abuse in the country.

The “Magnitude of Substance Abuse in India” conducted by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre revealed that nearly 5.7 crore persons are considered to be alcohol addicts and is said to be in need of urgent medical intervention.

It is sad that only 3% of the people who have a drinking problem receive proper treatment.
