University of Madras has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a five-star rating first, and later with an A rating. This UGC recognized University as one of the centers for “potential for excellence” in the country.

Established in 1857, University of Madras is known to be the oldest premier University of Chennai. With 6 campuses in cities like Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Marina, Taramani, Maduravoyal. Currently, it has 109 colleges and 52 approved research institutions affiliated with it. These offer courses in areas like Science, Social Science, Humanities, Management, and Medicine.

Internationally, the university was ranked 89 in the QS University Rankings BRICS University Rankings of 2016. In India, the National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked it 64 overall and 41 among universities in 2017.

Recently the University has started reviving its placement cell and alumni association in order to track the placement records and ensure best placements are provided to students.

Placement Highlights 2017:

Around 90% of the students were placed in every batch. The highest pay package offered was 9.8 lakh per annum and the average pay package for the placed students stood at 4.25 lakh per annum, as announced by the university.

He said that the course is amazing. Faculty motivates students and inspires them to do research.

“Total intake per batch is 20. Based on the ability students are placed in different companies like Infosys, TCS, World Bank group and Nationalized Banks, Forensics Labs. Placement figures 3.5 lakhs-6.5 lakhs if lucky, you may have a double offer.”

2. Satish Kumar (Batch-2017), Master of Business Administration:

He said that the university has 95% placements and they ensure that the students will acquire the knowledge on trends in the industry.

“It is one of the oldest institutions in India offering MBA Program at very low cost. It takes around 80,000 INR only for entire 2 years inclusive of all amenities. Most of the faculty members are the most experienced people in the industry like Sr. President, CEOs.”

3. Yuvaraj (Batch-2007), Psychology:

He said that he became Assistant Professor in the University of Madras before completing his masters. He also said that the fee is very less for this course and he spent a total of 7K for the completion of the course.

“Very good. I got into University Assistant Professor even before my M. Phil Degree was awarded. It shows the potential of my institution. He said that they did not have placements but he personally feels that the department is awesome and the faculty is excellent, they are easily approachable and very helpful.

“No campus interviews, but my course and university have recognition in the companies across the globe. I have joined in an NGO. I personally feel my department is awesome with excellent professors and head of the department. My Head of Department is very flexible and he is very helpful for the students and he is easily approachable.”

He said that the university also has off-campus selection drives, so there are many opportunities for the students to prove themselves.

“I have done my internship in Hacer software solution Chennai. They will give you 100% freedom to the student as whatever you want to do, you can do. Faculty of my college is awesome because they are experts in their fields. Each 1 has minimum 7 years of the council member. So, they never take the students in the wrong way always take us the good way.”

6. Arockia Regan Marks (Batch-2013), MCA:

He said that he has a wonderful experience studying in the university. As it is a Government Institution, they have good opportunities to be placed in a company.

“About 90 percent of the students got selected across verticals. Almost all top companies in each sector were visiting the campus regularly, especially the banking sector placements which are very good. The average CTC ranges between 4 to 5 lacs and the highest package is 10 lacs. Also, because of its eminent placement cell, such an achievement is possible.”

The reviews given by the students are mixed. But overall the placement opportunities are good. Academics are good and is always getting updated with the latest trends so that students have good exposure to current trends.

Thus, University of Madras has made its mark in academics as well as in ensuring employability of its students. Also by providing a variety of courses in the distance as well as regular mode it has been catering to different needs of students.
