Food Menu Printed Like Aadhaar Card For Indian Couple’s Wedding

Indians taking it up a notch!

It has been more than a year since we have been cohabiting with one of the deadliest viruses out there. Coronavirus has taken a toll on all of us. It had brought the whole world to a standstill, as Pablo Neruda had once suggested.

Not sure about how introspective this break was, but it changed us for the good and the bad. Creativity became the weapon in times of such constraints and restrictions became the order of the day everywhere.

And what better way to show it than through the big fat Indian weddings? A couple from West Bengal knocked our socks off when they decided to bring an element of surprise to their marriage ceremony.

What Was It?

At a time when menu cards are becoming a thing of the past due to the pandemic, the couple took the bull by the horns with a creative solution to the problem. They came up with menu cards that were designed like Aadhaar cards.

They managed to bring semblance in every printed word and design on the cards, starting from the appetizers to the desserts. The likeness was so intact that you might as well have mistaken it for an Aadhaar card at a glance.

The front side had the couple’s name, photos, and date along with the menu. The other side had a funny disclaimer saying that the card was valid only for that day.

Aadhaar is an identity card recognized by all the statutory bodies present in India. However, they do not prove the citizenship of an individual. The card contains the name, address, and other details, along with the photograph and the biometric features like fingerprints and iris image of the cardholder.

How Did This Idea Pop Up?

We came to know about this creative creation after the couple- Gogol Saha and Subarna Das decided to upload the photograph of their menu cards on Facebook. And you know, how long it takes before such things go viral!

When asked whose idea it was, Saha revealed that his wife came up with this Aadhaar twist to the wedding. Since they both support Digital India, they felt it to be an admirable way to show their support for this initiative.

The Aadhaar card idea added awe as well as humor in the air of the wedding. The groom further said that the guests joked—whether Aadhaar was essential to attend any ceremony these days. People joked about if they had left their Aadhaar on the dining table which eventually turned out to be one of the funnier lines they got from their guests that day.

The bride and groom are residents of Rajarhat, Kolkata, and they got married on the 1st of February with all the COVID-19 protocols in place, proving no one can beat Indians when it comes to the wedding mania.
