DU Cut-off Memes Are Ruling The Internet With Its Sarcasm

Sky-high cut-offs, like always!

Negative thoughts, peer pressure, anxiety, etc. are responsible for the deterioration of the mental health of all age groups. This year, in particular, due to lower peer interaction, exam stress, uncertainty around placements, and admissions, students all across the world have seen a spike in stress levels.

Delay in exams, uncertainty around results, and future prospects further exacerbated the situation. On this World Mental Health Day, the University of Delhi, popular for its sky-high cut-offs, released the first cut off list for admissions for the academic year 2020-21.

For years now, DU’s cut-offs have been making headlines due to the soaring figures. While the officials reach this figure with utmost caution and plenty of estimation, the cut-offs do not seem to fare well amongst the students.

Statistics suggest that over 3,50,000 students registered for admissions to the undergraduate courses this year. The top tier institutes have pegged the highest cut-offs, as always.

Lady Shri Ram College for Women declared a 100% cut-off for admission of general category aspirants to BA (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Political Science, and BA (Hons) Psychology. Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) declared a 99.5% cut-off for admissions to B.Com. (Hons) and 99% for BA (Hons) Economics.

Like always, the cut-off list has made a thousand jaws drop, adding to the pressure on young students and their parents. Netizens took to social media to comment on the irony of the situation where the university was talking about mental health just a few months back.

Reactions On Social Media

Every year during the admission season, we come across similar reactions, but unfortunately, nothing has changed for years now. Cut-offs continue to rise, and so does the cut-throat competition amongst students.

Parents and young aspirants need to understand that their well-being should be of utmost priority, and this should not be compromised at any cost.
