First, there was COVID, then came Alpha, then Beta, then Gamma… Delta, Omicron, Delmicron and just like those shared autos that try to squeeze in as many people as they can in one ride, we also now have the Florona.
The first case of Florona was reportedly found in Israel just before 2021 ended on 31st December 2021 in a pregnant woman at the Rabin Medical Center. As per reports, it is a mix of COVID-19 and influenza.
Arab News confirmed this by stating in a tweet that “#Israel records first case of #florona disease, a double infection of #COVID19 and influenza.”
What Is A Florona?
The word ‘Florona’ is apparently a combination of Flu or Influenza and COVID-19, which is what this new disease seems to be.
According to reports, florona is not exactly a COVID variant but is something that happens when a person is infected with both COVID and the flu at the same time.
In Israel’s case of the pregnant woman, she had been admitted to the hospital for childbirth and that is when she was detected with ‘florona’. Apparently, the woman had also not been vaccinated and was already showing symptoms resembling COVID-19 when admitted.
Israeli scientists are reportedly researching into samples of ‘florona’ in order to better understand it and figure out its severity. Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) or any other major health organisation has not yet termed it as very dangerous.
As of yet, the WHO has only recorded Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron as official variants to the COVID-19.
Some reports believe that a florona can be due to a lapse of immunity in the human body that results in two viruses attacking it at the same time.
The symptoms for florona reportedly being fever, sore throat, fatigue, nausea, cough, vomiting, shortness of breath, body aches, sneezing, headache, diarrhea, and rashes (in the case of children).
It seems that people have had enough of all these variants and are just done with new ones coming out left, right and center. So with florona making its debut, many took to social media to troll the variant and just express their exasperation with it all.

The only thing now is when will it all come under control and we won’t be bombarded with new and even more deadly variants and combinations?!
