Beware Of These Emails IDs; Govt Warns Of Serious Phishing Attacks Starting Today

Cybercriminals are now targetting COVID financial aid as bait!

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has announced a massive threat of phishing attacks in India. The attacks are expected to start on 21st June 2020.

The attackers are targeting financial aid granted by our Indian government as a bait to lure people.

These cybercriminals have around 20 lakh email IDs of people. The mail IDs are said to imitate government agencies and may even look like a genuine government email ID, like “ncov2019@gov.in”.

They are likely to send emails regarding free COVID-19 testing for all residents of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

These emails can have links and files attached or ask for personal and sensitive information. This information will then be used to make thefts.

Who Is Expected To Be Behind These Attacks?

A hacker group sponsored by North Korea, Lazarus, is said to be conducting these phishing campaigns. They are targeting six nations that have announced financial support to businesses and individuals.

The target nations are Singapore, Japan, USA, UK, South Korea, and India.

Our government has previously announced financial aid in the form of collateral-free loans and credit to micro, small and medium industries.

They have also announced welfare packages for citizens. The attackers may attack small as well as large businesses by offering these fiscal aids.
