An Instagram Filter Now Teaches Women How To Self Examine Their Breasts For Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women worldwide. In India, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 4 minutes. One in 28 women is likely to develop breast cancer in their lifetime (with the probability higher in an urban area than rural areas).

These statistics are scary, to say the least. What’s scarier is that the survival rate for breast cancer is not very high despite it being a treatable disease. In India, as much as 40% women die due to this because the detection happens very late.

So, what can be done to make it better? Early detection is the only way to prevent the disease from reaching a stage where it becomes fatal. Thankfully, detection for breast cancer can be done at home also. But, most people don’t know how to do that.

If you are one of them, don’t worry. Instagram has got you covered! For a platform that has numerous issues and critics, it does have several advantages also. Teaching women how to self examine their breasts is one of them.

Instagram Filter Lets You Check For Breast Cancer

A leading pharma company, also at the forefront of COVID-19 vaccination development, Johnson & Johnson launched an Instagram filter to allow women to check for cancer of breasts. The filter acts as a mirror and shows how to move your hands and where to touch to examine for any irregularities.

Why

The Vice-president of Strategy and Marketing from Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health, Ricardo Wolff said,

“Our mission is to take the science and innovation from Johnson & Johnson to people’s day-to-day lives, so they can take care of themselves and of people around them. This value, which guides us in product development, has led us to apply technology at service of women, so they can take care of themselves without doubts that they are doing the right way”

We want to encourage a chain of care so women take care of each other. For this reason, we included the option of sharing the filter, to further help women understand how and where the movements should be,” he added.

The filter is called the Self-Exam filter

Instagram’s Policy

This is a filter that acts as a mirror for your breasts. How can Instagram allow a filter like that when its policy is strictly against the display of nudity? This is because the filter is meant to be used privately.

The algorithm would block the image if someone tries to post it. So, the breast examination is done in the filter preview, and not visible to others. Hence, it doesn’t violate the platform’s policy and is safe for you to use.

Instagram filters make one look extremely pretty and attractive by hiding blemishes and covering flaws. And we all love to use those filters. How about using a filter that highlights your lumps and irregularities (if there are any) for legit health purposes? It could be life-changing, isn’t it?
