Every now and then, PepsiCo signs some of the biggest celebrities in the country to endorse their aerated drinks and well, there’s hardly been a popular celebrity who has ever refused to work with Pepsi, until now.

One of my favorites and currently captaining the Indian Cricket Team, the very talented Virat Kohli just made the headlines over his refusal to extend his 6-years-long deal of endorsement of cola drinks of the American multinational giant Pepsi.

Virat Kohli

Virat And PepsiCo

PepsiCo had signed Virat Kohli back in 2011 for the endorsement of the soft-drink – Pepsi. While Virat was climbing the ladder of success in International Cricket, Pepsi was significantly growing alongside Virat, too.

But that coherence didn’t last very long when the sportsman just recently confirmed his decision of stepping out from the deal. He may or may not endorse some other brand from the company’s portfolio.

PepsiCo is already under scrutiny by government and health code enforcement representatives and has only seen a single-digit growth in the past six quarters.
And after Virat’s high-profile exit from the deal, the situation seems to be only getting worse for the conglomerate.

Integrity Is High With This One

We are actually on the cusp of making some big changes on that front. Things that I’ve endorsed in the past, I won’t take names, but something that I feel that I don’t connect to anymore.
If I myself won’t consume such things, I won’t urge others to consume it just because I’m getting money out of it.

said Virat Kohli in an exclusive interview with CNN-IBN.

The brilliant Indian skipper has expressed certain reservations over promoting the cola drink on account of its sugary and unhealthy content.
BTW I’d totally ditch drinking cola if he says so. (Sorry, Mad Fan Alert!)

An official of PepsiCo has indicated that they are still in talks with the talent management firm that represents Kohli but there hasn’t been any response from their side, yet.

That’s Why We Love Him

Well, what’s not to love about the guy! He’s totally amazing!

And now he’s given us one more reason to respect him even more. In addition to the brilliant sportsman that he is, he is an increasingly motivational and righteous role model.

Virat’s current brand evaluation is estimated to be $120 million (Roughly, ₹700 crores) surpassing established Indian cricketers such as MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.

In a country obsessed with celebrities, a move such is this should definitely invoke some change. I mean it’s only rare when we stumble upon incidents like these. Kicking a million dollar deal because you don’t believe in it. Way to go, Kohli!
