The Canadian Grand Prix 2015

-

“To understand the intensity of driving a F1 car, you have to be in it. When you’re driving a 750 hp machine at 200 mph, the noise and the vibrations are incredible. The G-force when you take big corners is like someone trying to rip your head off. You hit the brakes, and it feels as if the skin is being pulled off your body.”

These amazing words came from Honda McLaren Formula 1 race car driver Jenson Button which is enough to depict the intensity and thrill involved in Formula 1 races that drives me and all race enthusiasts out there go crazy. I personally love the game for the dynamics and adventure involved in it.

Next in the stream, tonight we have Race number 7 from the Formula 1 calendar for the year 2015 which is Canadian Grand Prix. So let’s just take a quick preview of everything that you should know about the tonight’s GP.

CIRCUIT:canadian-grand-prix-circuit-map

The Gilles Villeneuve Circuit located on Notre-Dame Island in Montréal, Canada has always been known for its bends and having walls too close to the circuit. The track consists of both long straights and tight corners checking the overall capability of the driver.

The long straight before the final chicane exits into one of the trickiest section of circuit called the “Wall of Champions” and it is called so because it has claimed the championship of many drivers including Schumacher, Button and Vettel.

It’s a circuit that rewards drivers for good and precise driving skills, those who can go pass the tricky chicanes by just kissing them.

CURRENT STANDINGS:

Talking of current driver standings now, Lewis Hamilton from Team Mercedes is leading the chart closely followed by arch rival from the same team, Nico Rosberg. Third and fourth in the list are Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen and fifth spot of Top 5 racers has been filled by Valtteri Bottas from Williams.Picture1

QUALIFICATIONS:

Lewis Hamilton got the pole position for the Canadian GP. Nico Rosberg got P2 after finishing three tenths down to Lewis. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen qualified third with Valtteri Bottas finishing fourth.

Surprise element Lotus pair Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado will occupy the third row today. Force India’s Hulkenberg took the seventh spot, Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo from Redbull Racing took eigth and ninth and Force India’s Sergio Perez finished tenth.

Sebastian Vettel following some engine issues couldn’t do well in qualifications so finished 16th and Jenson Button who didn’t set a lap time may have to start from last position today.

WHAT DO I MAKE OUT OF THIS YEAR?

Last year after almost dominating the entire race, Nico Rosberg lost it to Daniel Ricciardo in last few laps but I don’t see that happening this year. Being a Hamilton fan, I would love to see him standing on the top of podium followed by Kimi and then Nico.

Yes Lewis has been having a tough time, a total mismanagement in Monaco costing him the race, spin on the hair pin bend and even a collapse in practice session but I do expect him to bounce back stronger and take away the trophy.

DARK HORSES:

I so wanted to add the name of 17 year old Max Verstappen here but he’s to face 15 position penalty following the Monaco GP crash and engine change.

So I would nominate the names of Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), Romain Grosjean (Lotus) and Valtteri Bottas (Williams) for this list.

Whatever happens, if it doesn’t rain out there like it did in practice session we can expect to see another nail biting race of the 2015 season.
