La Liga Round-Up : Real Madrid Held For A Draw And Barcelona March To Victory Without Messi

-

Another day to forget for Real Madrid as the early pace-setters had to settle for a late draw against a spirited Las Palmas side whereas Barcelona marched to victory with a 5-goal rout against Sporting Gijon.

The week was dark and full of terrors for Real Madrid as they had to face a second consecutive draw this week and this time, it was against Las Palmas as they succumbed to missed chances and some clumsy attacking.

Superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo looked off pace and was substituted in the final stages of the game after he set up Karim Benzema’s goal.

It was after that when Las Palmas equalised and Ronaldo looked on from the bench, clearly unimpressed. In Zidane’s defence, Ronaldo was substituted as he needs rest to get back to his best form for the mid week clash against Borussia dortmund, which will mark Zidane’s 1st European quest against a top team.

Real Madrid went ahead with Marco Asensio and the scores were brought on level terms after Tana scored the equaliser.

After the break, Benzema put the Los Blancos ahead with 5 minutes to go, Sergio Araujo scored to crash Madrid’s party and brought the La Liga race back to life.

Real Madrid’s arch rivals barcelona marched to a convincing 5-0 win at Sporting Gijon as Luis Suarez and Neymar took the responsibility to lead the attack in the absence of their talisman, Leo Messi.

Neymar scored twice and 1 goal a piece was scored by Luis Suarez, Rafinha and Arda Turan.

Leo Messi will be reportedly missing the midweek clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Champions League, the next La Liga game and Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Paraguay.

Furthermore, Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic were also rested from the Barcelona squad to play a midfield of Rafinha, Arda Turan and Andre Gomes.

The week saw Real Madrid still leading the La Liga standings with 14 points from 6 games with Barcelona climbing into the 2nd position with 13 points and Atletico entering the top 4 with a 1-o win against Deportivo.
