Here’s What I Thought About Oasis’16, The Annual Fest Of BITS Pilani

-

Oasis is a totally student-run fest. At a place like Pilani which is void of the tempting air and the monumental beauty, managing such a huge fest is a tremendous effort. All the departments and clubs gear up in advance and prepare day and night for the loopholes to maintain the image of the fest.

OASIS 2016 too, was a grand success and hence we thought of reviewing it in our style!

HOW TO REACH

The best way to travel and the way we travelled was via train. We travelled via Bikaner Intercity till Luharu Station and then took a cab that dropped us off to the BITS Campus! Such cabs and jeeps are readily available outside the station.

There are direct buses and other trains available as well! Driving your own vehicle is also an option!

HIGHLIGHTS

1. Rocktaves, without a doubt, is one of the most esteemed rock competitions in the country and endeavors to strengthen the fairly nascent Indian rock scene.

2. Street dance, desert duel, choreo, tarang, Razzmatazz, splash, BLAB, Fash-p, prom night and the list is never ending.

3. Prof shows, EDM night and embassy nights are some of the finest events in the Oasis.

4. Last but not the least, the crowd that actually makes Oasis one of the biggest cultural fests of India as well as Asia.

The major highlights this year apart from what is mentioned above was Amit Trivedi and Kenny Sebastian.

EXPERIENCE: THE GOOD AND THE BAD

As soon as you enter the campus during Oasis, you can see BITSians running around the huge campus that shows their strong commitment to Oasis. Once you’re inside campus you gotta start with the Registration process. The fact that so many colleges from different parts of India participate here makes the Registration process a bit problematic! For me this was the only part about Oasis that wasn’t upto the mark.

It was taking them hours to register and there was absolutely no provision or place to relax. We had  to literally wait in queue for hours to get us registered. We reached the campus around 1 p.m. and we were provided with accommodation at 7 p.m. in the evening!

A picture I took of the lighted up campus late in the night!

Once the registration was done and accommodation was provided (usually the hostels or staff flats), the 96 hours at BITS were a roller coaster ride. From hours of debating in the Parliamentary Debate in the morning to lit nights. From quick auto rides to local food joints to late night walks in cool breeze. Late night Embassy Nights, DJ Sessions and what not?

96 hours of buzz in the campus when literally no one sleeps, Oasis’16 was one hell of an experience!

VERDICT

WOOHS

The All Night Canteen, BITS Connaught, Institute Canteen, Late night Embassy Nights and DJ Sessions, Concerts, the lighted up beautiful Campus and oh, Rotunda and the prettiest Clock Tower!

MEHS

Since the OC changes almost every year, these people lack a bit in organising front on the ground level. From not providing water bottles in events like debate to loopholes in registration and accommodation!

Having said this, those 96 hours at Oasis create memories for lifetime!

I suggest everyone should visit this extravaganza at least once in their college life!

Period.

four-and-a-half-stars

Oasis’16 gets incredible 4.5 stars from me!
