Hafiz Saeed, Terrorist, Could Potentially Become Pakistan’s Next Prime Minister

It is not far away when we may see the mastermind of 2008 Mumbai Attacks, Hafiz Saeed, terrorist, as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed has formally entered Pakistan politics by announcing his party – Milli Muslim League (MML).

Hafiz Saeed, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks is likely to launch his political outfit on Pakistan’s Independence Day (14th August) at a function in Lahore. He won’t be present though as he is under house arrest.

JuD has been responsible for many other attacks in Pakistan and around the globe as well.

“We have decided to make a new political party so that Pakistan is to make a real Islamic and welfare state,” said Milli Muslim League president Saifullah Khalid.

What Is The Need For A Political Party?

It isn’t surprising to see this move take place at this point of time as Pakistan recently elected its new PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court over the Panama Papers scandal. The political spectrum is stuck in the mud and Hafiz Saeed wants to make maximum utilization of it.

Moreover, he is known to have good relations with the Pakistani Army and ISI.

As it is known that the new political outfit is opposed to the democratic structure and the secular fiber in the Muslim State, it might just appease to the extremists, the older generation and radicalize the youth into following its footsteps.

It is a no brainer to assume that the new party was designed to give militants better cover amid pressure from the international community on Pakistan to crack down on terrorist organizations.

Where is Hafiz Saeed?

Hafiz Saeed has been placed under house arrest since January 31, when he was initially interned for 90 days. His house arrest was subsequently extended for another three months which expired on July 27. But, now the provincial government has extended the curbs on his movement for another two months.

He carries a bounty of 10 million USD on his head for his role in the Mumbai Attacks.

Impact on India

The MML has vouched that it would raise the Kashmir issue with full force at both provincial and federal levels.

This shouldn’t augur well for India. If MML happens to make a difference in the political sphere of our neighbors, we can expect even more turbulent years with Pakistan. Our relationship with Pakistan is at an all- time low and news like this will only rub salt in the wounds.

The future looks bleak for Pakistan.
