Going green is more than just a phrase. While the world is reiterating the importance of environment conservation and trying to implement the clichéd measures, there are some who believe in adding an innovative and practical touch to green solutions. Here’s a look.

  • Ø ECO FRIENDLY NIGHT CLUB

A night-club in Britain has a bar that is supposedly powered by renewable energy and serves organic spirits in polycarbon cups. It also has generates its power from the dance floor.

  • Ø PLANT TREES WHILE SEARCHING THE WEB

For every 1000 searches that users make on ecocho.com, five trees will be grown to offset carbon pollution emissions.  Switching to ecocho.com doesn’t alter or slow your search as search results directly from Yahoo!

  • Ø GENERATE ELECTRICITY ON THE TREADMILLS

A gym in Portland, Oregon has devised a resourceful way of getting out of paying the electricity bills – by getting the customers to generate the energy for them.

Human power is used to create real energy from four spin bikes at a rate of 200 to 600 watts per hour, depending on how fit the rider is. The energy produced is then stored in a battery that’s used to run the rest of the gym’s equipment.

  • Ø GREEN CREDIT CARDS

The HSBC Green Credit Card claims seriously green credentials. The card itself is made from environmentally-friendly materials, accounts are managed online so that paper statements are cut down and 0.1% of purchases made using the card go towards funding local environmental projects.

  • Ø ECO- FRIENDLY ROCK MUSIC

Solar Punch is a solar-powered band that makes use of the Sun’s energy to power their sound system and run their electric guitars.

  • Ø DON’T CLAP, ONLY WAVE!!

A leading Delhi school teaches its students to appreciate in ways other than noisy applause. This creative initiative at a premature age instills in the students an awareness of the need to optimally utilize our environment.

  • Ø SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT DURING RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES

For the past three years, eCoexist has been collaborating with the NGO Waste Matters and the rag pickers cooperative SWACH, to coordinate a project that addresses the issue of ‘Nirmalya’- offerings made during Ganesh Chaturthi. Pune Municipal Authorities have been ensuring that the nirmalya is not put into the river, rather collected in waste bins provided by the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) alongside the river. Flowers in good condition are recyclable and are used to make perfumes.

All these above instances besides portraying an ingenious and vigilant frame of mind, remind one and all that they need to do something today.
