English Premier League – The Final Straw

-

The season looked done and dusted when Chelsea were going unbeaten in the Premier League for more than 3 months and no other side were able to cope with the class of Jose Mourinho’s men. But soon after they lost to New Castle United, the form of the blues dropped quite a bit as they faced a humiliating defeat against Spurs and were recently knocked out of the Champion’s League as well,  this gave the other big teams a hope to climb up the table and win the prestigious trophy.

TOP FOUR BATTLES –

While Manchester United was under serious pressure from the starting as they lost the opening game at Old Trafford against Swansea, which was also the first match under their new manager  Louis Van Gaal, however, they have got back in to form and have just lost 2 matches in the last 4 months with David DE Gea being the best keeper this season due to which Manchester United are currently at 3rd position and will look to finish at least 2nd in the table.united

Liverpool on the other side had a promising start without their star striker Daniel Sturiddge and last year’s top scorer Luis Suarez playing in Spain this season. Steven Gerrard, probably Liverpool’s best ever player will be playing his last season as he has decided to go to America after the season ends. Liverpool needs to win each and every league game now to possibly finish in top 4, which looks quite bleak.

The defending champions Manchester City have had their ups and down in the season. They had a very promising start to the season but after getting knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League, City have had seen a drop in form but still are very much in contention to finish in the top 4.

Arsenal did not have a great start to their season and have been seriously affected by injuries as big stars like Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Alexis were out for quite a time due to injuries. With recent victories over Manchester City and Liverpool and a semi final spot in the FA Cup, the Gunners are high on confidence and are expected to grab the Champions League spot with ease.

THE BIG MATCH – MANCHESTER UNITED vs. CHELSEA

The table toppers will host the Reds at Stanford Bridge on Saturday, with a massive win against arch rivals Manchester City last week, United is very high on confidence and will look to continue their unbeaten run.

Chelsea on the other hand are very close to clinching the title this time and will surely not let this chance from their hands, with Jones, Rojo and Blind unavailable for the match. Chelsea start as sure favourites and will look to strengthen their title chances.

RELEGATION BATTLE –

Aston VILLA – Villa are the latest club to earn that “too good to go down” tag and should have enough – but the players need to wake up to the threat of relegation quickly.

QPR – Are on a dreadful run of seven defeats, two draws and that one away win at Sunderland in their past 10 games. The change of manager has not prompted any discernible improvement in results but there are still plenty of others around them in trouble.

BURNLEY – Those imminent fixtures with Manchester City, Southampton, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton give the impression it will be just too much for Burnley to survive.

LEICESTER – Leicester have not looked out of place at times but this season will be viewed as a frustrating experience with a likely return to the Championship.

With an interesting top 4 and relegation battle, the remaining fixtures is a must win for the top as well as the lower most team. The battle will just get more exciting with big matches like Chelsea – United, Arsenal – Chelsea and Liverpool – Chelsea still to come.

Who will be crowned the English Champions? Who will be relegated? Who will go to Europe? All the questions will be answered in the next 2 months, so tighten your seat belts and enjoy the greatest league in the history of football.
