The Planning Forum of St. Stephen’s College is hosting the tenth edition of the St. Stephen’s Model United Nations (SMUN) on February 2, 3, and 4, 2018.
SMUN is known to be one of the most prestigious events in the circuit, owing to its heritage and academic excellence. Moreover, this year SMUN turns 10! So you can bet it is going to be the best till date. The conference attracts delegates from all across the country. Cash awards, bragging rights, and an enriching experience await the best of the delegates participating in this MUN.
This year, SMUN has an incredible lineup of committees. The agendas for these resulted from days spent in research and discussions by The Secretariat. The five committees for this edition of the St. Stephens Model United Nations are:
The first committee being simulated is the United Nations General Assembly (IV): Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (SPECPOL), with the agenda “Prevention of Territorial Disputes and State Failure in Small Island Developing States”.
The next committee being simulated is the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, with the agenda “Combatting Islamophobia”.
The third committee being simulated this year is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women, also known as the UN Women committee. The agenda for this committee is “Reproductive Rights of Women with Special Emphasis on Prostitution and Surrogacy”.
The fourth committee is the National Institution for Transforming India or the NITI Aayog, with the agenda “Regional Development through Deconcentration and Decentralization Reforms”.
The final committee being simulated this year is the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (UNCEB) with the agenda “UN System Collaboration and Joint Action for Provision of Humanitarian Aid, with special emphasis on Migrants and Refugees”.
The background guides for all the committees are available on their official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StephensMUN/.
With a set of exciting committees and interesting agendas and being held in the aesthetic campus of St. Stephens College, the tenth edition of St. Stephens Model United Nations will be nothing short of a MUNner’s dream.
