Breakfast Babble: ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.
To fall in love is one of the most beautiful things in life, those feelings, that rush can hardly be replicated. And when two people love each other, they want to spend the rest of their lives together, they want to build something with each other and thus they marry, but I don’t care.
They might have to stay till 4 in the morning for the perfect muhurat or sit on a horse while crazy people throw a fit around you. But I don’t. I just have to show up for dinner.
I don’t care about how deep their love is, or how much they fought to get married or what they have planned for the future, hell I don’t even care how hot the bride is.
Khana accha hona chayie bas!
Because let’s face it, we all go to weddings for the food and we judge them later on the basis of food only. Never would you say after 6 months that Bahu kitni sundar thi (how beautiful the bride was). You would rather say yar udhar ke chole bhature best the (they had the best chole bhature)
And I feel kinda bad that instead of celebrating the union of two houses, of two souls, we are hunting for waiters with those amazing paneer tikkas. Even at my aunt’s wedding when I was 3, I was more interested in the faluda than the feras.
Weddings these days are just subsidized buffets because you pay 1001 Rs. for any number of family members you want and then they all eat for free. And instead of trying to change the culture, we shamelessly follow it.
The last few weddings I went to had a bigger ground for the buffet than the actual weddings. People don’t shy away from being opulent and food is the way to go now.
People have these humongous spreads with everything from tacos to tikkas. From falafel to faludas. And not just that, they have enough alcohol to put 10 fully grown elephants to sleep.
So when you get married, be happy and not sad. Because even though the 2000 odd people came for your food, they preferred yours because you have better food.
