Pictures That Would Make You Want To Take A Vacation To Andaman Right Away : Photo Series

Long fabled among travellers and tourists for its legendary beaches, world-class diving and far-flung location in the middle of nowhere, the Andaman Islands are still the ideal place to get away from it all.

Andaman - 1

Its lovely opaque emerald waters are surrounded by primeval jungle and mangrove forests, and snow-white beaches that melt under flame-and-purple sunsets. The population is a friendly mix of South and Southeast Asian settlers, as well as Negrito ethnic groups whose arrival here still has anthropologists baffled.

Adding to the intrigue is its remote location, some 1370km from the mainland, meaning the islands are geographically more Southeast Asia – 150km from Indonesia and 190km from Myanmar.

The natural beauty of the coral reefs, the clear waters and the pleasant beaches of the islands of Andaman make you not want to come back home and the simple lifestyle of the people makes your stay even more pleasant.

Generally while taking a trip to Andaman people prefer to stay in Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman and then explore the nearby Islands. Although some of the people prefer to stay at Havelock Island as well, which is regarded as prettiest island amongst the groups of islands of Andaman.

Though surrounded by attractive lush forest and rugged coastline, Port Blair is more or less your typical Indian town. It’s a vibrant mix of Indian Ocean inhabitants – Bengalis, Tamils, Telugus, Nicobarese and Burmese. Like I said, most tourists don’t hang around any longer than necessary (usually one or two days while waiting to book onward travel in the islands, or returning for departure).

But Port Blair’s fascinating history makes for some worthwhile sightseeing that warrants exploration. For instance, the Cellular Jail which is of historical importance to India. In addition to that, all the aquariums that teach you about the marine life and the sunrise and sunset points make for the most visited tourist spots.

The other islands worth visiting are : Havelock Island, Ross Island, North Bay Island, Baratang Island, Jolly Buoy Island, Chidiya Tapu, Viper Island and Neil Island.

Something you shouldn’t miss : Water Sports and Activities like Scuba Diving, Sea Walk, Snorkelling, Jet Skiing, Glass Boat ride etc.

All in all, Andamans give you experiences and memories for life, something you cherish all along!
