DREAM! This word is a huge valley of ecstasy in itself. You know what is the unique thing about dreams? It is one of the few things that are common throughout humans. You can say life without a dreams is meaningless; either you want them to remain a mere fantasy or want that fantasy to be converted into reality. Dreaming is something you can’t take for granted. Let’s check out some cool information that is just the tip of iceberg when it comes to this wonderful process.

If you think that only people with eyesight can dream, I want to throw some light on your thoughts.  Blind people can dream too, theirs are auditory if they were born blind, if they went blind at an early age, they still dream of what they remember. Have you ever watched a sleeping dog wag its tail or move its leg while asleep? Researchers believe that it is likely that animals have the ability to dream too. According to studies, negative emotions are more common in dreams. You all must have encountered these words-‘I had a nightmare last night. I wish I could control it anyhow but…’

Control! O yes, you can. A Lucid Dream is one in which you are aware that you are dreaming even though you are still asleep. And you can often direct or control the content of dream. But here is something which is totally in contrast with this. We can get paralyzed during our dreams. You must be startled. But believe it’s nothing to get worried about. It’s all a biological phenomenon.

REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is the stage of sleep in which dreaming takes place and is thought to allow for the organisation of memories and the retention of learning) .During this stage if dreaming occurs, it is characterised by paralysis of the voluntary muscles. Why? Well this phenomenon is known as REM atonia and prevents you from acting out dreams while you are asleep. Basically, because motor neurons are not stimulated, your body does not move.

In some cases this paralysis can even carry over into the waking state for as long as ten minutes, a condition known as Sleep Paralysis. After a nightmare, you sometimes find yourself unable to move? While the experience can be terrible, experts advise that it is perfectly normal and should last only a few minutes before normal muscle control returns.

But have you ever woken up from such a beautiful, perfect dream that you wished you could go back to sleep to soak it all up (smiling or blushing :]). It happens with many of us. Just lie still, don’t move a muscle and you can remain in a semi-dreamlike state for a few minutes.

Now taking a u-turn from night dreams to daydreams. Believe it or not, daydreaming is one of the most common things we do and probably one of the most private things. It reveals that daydreamers are good planners and organisers. In this case don’t you mistake daydreaming as a visual fantasy. Fantasies matter for those who build castles in air.
